Refuge

Refuge is a United Kingdom charity providing support for victims of domestic violence. Its main service is to maintain a national network of safe houses (refuges) to provide emergency accommodation for women and children. It operates the Freephone 24-Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women's Aid. It also provides outreach services for victims - in the home or at a discreet place in the community. Their Independent Domestic Violence Advocates provide expert guidance for women going through civil and criminal courts.  Their psychologists help women and children overcome the traumatic effects of abuse.  They also provide culturally specific services for women and children from minority ethnic groups. Furthermore, they run award-winning Prevention and Education advertising campaigns and are actively involved in lobbying to ensure that domestic violence remains high on the political agenda.
