The Northern Ireland Women’s Aid Federation (NIWAF) has been in existence since 1978. It is the leading voluntary organisation challenging domestic violence in Northern Ireland. They strive to create a safe and supportive society for women, children and young people affected by domestic violence. The charity (funded by Children in Need) provides refuge and emotional support to women and their dependent children suffering from mental or physical harassment within the home. There are now 11 Women's Aid Groups in the province. The website lists local contact details for each Women's Aid team.
