It's a phenomenal figure - the fact that every person in the country uses an average of 167 plastic bags every year.  That's 10 billion bags all together!  And worse than that, it takes 500 years for these plastic bags to decay in landfill sites.  There is an alternative.  It's called a shopping bag!

We're launching a campaign now - in June - to try to rid the country of plastic bags by Christmas.  Please join our new Plastic Ain't My Bag campaign.   We have also asked shops to play their part in bringing an end to the wasteful use of plastic shopping bags and all forms of excessive packaging.

The campaign builds on the recent Anya Hindmarch 'I'm Not A Plastic Bag' project and puts into practise Action 1 in our book Change the World for a Fiver.

The campaign is organised by We Are What We Do (http://www.wearewhatwedo.org), a global social change movement.

Find out more - join us - get involved - but ABOVE ALL decline plastic bags!  And check out the Channel's Plastic Bag Competition.
