Few would disagree that bullying is the scourge of schools and work places. And I am determined to fight the problem. While a student, I developed initiatives to help victims of bullying and indeed bullies themselves and now, in my working life, strive to turn peoples' lives around.
I was bullied myself at school and this helped motivate me to do something about it. At middle school I suffered from racism quite a bit and then at secondary school I had quite a bit of verbal bullying. This certainly encourages you to stamp it out yourself.
Working as a teaching assistant in a local secondary school and in my community, I created a series of exciting and engaging ways of getting the anti-bullying message across. One of my proudest achievements is the fact that I helped to create a culture where it was OK, even maybe cool, to speak out about bullying and tried to make sure that everyone knew who to speak to about bullying and that they're not suffering in silence.
I've won many awards- a Pride of Milton Keynes award, two Princess Diana Awards and was even crowned BBC Three Counties Hero. All of these spurring me on yet further.
Fresh from winning an national competition with the TV channel MTV, for coming up with a ‘Grand Idea' against Bullying- I decided to make it happen. After months of networking, planning and much more I have made my idea a reality. With the tremendous help of Media Trust Productions- Volunteer films this has been able to happen and I am pleased to encourage the whole nation to Take A Stand against Bullying for this year's National Anti-Bullying week and indeed beyond. In partnership with leading Anti-Bullying Charity- Beat Bullying and their ground breaking partnership with Google/YouTube this has the potential to help millions!
I firmly believe that we all have a part to play in Anti-Bullying work, that bullies need the most help and that we can all make a difference. It's not just about Bullying anymore, it's about looking out for each other.
