The Marine Support & Training Service (MSTS) has been based in Blyth, South East Northumberland since December 2003. As a uniformed voluntary organisation we provide training in Seamanship, Small Craft Engineering and Operational Support, for our volunteers who come from many different backgrounds.
Early in 2007 we set up a Cadet Section, a member of which has already received permission from his Head of Year to allow time off school should exercises or training take place during school hours.
In September, thanks to Global Maritime, we were able to bring the Tall Ship "HMS Bounty" into both Blyth and Newcastle. This was a tremendous coup for Blyth, where she was extremely well received by the people of the area. Many thanks, especially to Blyth Valley Borough Council, Newcastle City Council, the Harbour Masters of Tyne and Blyth, Both Mayors, and everyone else who became involved at extremely short notice, especially the Briardale Community Training Centre for their magnificent on-board catering throughout the visits.
We provided specialist advice and training for the crew of the Finnish Fair Trade Ship "Estelle" when she came into Blyth in September 2007, enabling her to comply with the requirements of the MCA and SOLAS before she left for Leith.
do you know someone who has the relevant experience, and is able to run sessions on:-
We are a totally voluntary organisation, with no full-time or paid staff. So if you would like to join us and pass on your expertise, a warm welcome awaits ... as long as you don't expect any payment!
