Hello. First blog. Hmmm. What to write? Hmmm. Okay, here go's:
Think I'lll start with a little bit of shameless self, uh, no, group promotion.
Tricycle Arts, the group I belong to, are currently holding a FREE, yes, FREEEEE, (no shit), exhibition of multi media art in a little old place called Bournemouth, down south, in Dorset, often pronounced DaWSSaT. Carrot crunchers.
In fact, our show is in Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth. Boscome is a little run down sea side town that is full of lots and lots of colourful people from many walks of life, some good and some really quite not so good, but that makes it all the more interesting. For some odd reason I can't work out, there are lots of blokes walking around with over the top cockney accents, and this ain't London, or anything like it! Strange. Boscombe is great though, full of voluntry arts groups with a vibrant underbelly of creative talent. A kind of underground movement of artist bubbling away. It's brilliant. Really. Come and have a look!
The show. Yeah. Um, it's called "Escape From Reality (and other diversions)"
We have, as a group, as in the members, experienced some form or other of a mental health illness/issue or have had some kind of experience indirectly, such as being a carer to someone with a mental health issue. That still pretty direct though!
The show. Ah yeah. That.
It's full of art. Yup. Art.
Most of it, nay, all of it is really quite wierd and off the wall in a macarbe dark way or some of it is really quite funny, some great humour, some of the art work has a strong political message to relay. There's a good mix of wall based paintings, 3D odd things, sculpture, film, photography and written word.
If you are in the area for Dorset Arts Weeks 2008, please do come and visit and have a chat with us. We're all very mean and horrible and we will bite you. Or not. No, actually, we are all very nice and we promise not to bite. Much.
If you would like to have a sensible conversation (I can be sensible), please do contact me (e mail) and I can provide any info you may be after about the show and/or group.
First blog blogged. Job done. Badly.
