Multiple Sclerosis: early treatment can delay progression of the disease ENS Meeting 2008 - Some patients do not have access to effective modern treatments.

The latest findings in the diagnosis and treatment of neurological diseases are under discussion among over 3,000 experts at the annual congress of the European Neurological Society (ENS) in Nice. Special attention is being paid to multiple sclerosis. Around 400,000 people in Europe suffer from the chronic inflammatory disease multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is the most common neurological illness in young adults. In many cases, the disease is still diagnosed too late. That has dramatic consequences, since many studies have demonstrated that early treatment with Beta-Interferon or Glatiramer Acetate can significantly slow the progress of inflammation. MS patients in some European countries are denied access to effective therapies, especially in the early stages of the disease, according to experts at the ENS Congress.................
