Valerie Browning's remarkable story in Afar

A food crisis looms again in Ethiopia and the rest of the Horn of Africa. This time one of the affected regions is the remote Afar region of northern Ethiopia which is already one of the poorest regions of one of the poorest countries in the world.

But if you watch Afar Angel you'll be amazed at the resilience, determination and dignity of people right on the edge and struggling to survive.

Oxfam says between nine to 13 million people are at risk of famine in the Horn of Africa in this new crisis and part of this is to do with spiralling food prices which can be borne even less by people in Ethiopia than by us in the UK.

I travelled to the Ogaden desert between Ethiopia and Somalia and witnessed a similar drought and hunger in 2000. The people I met made a lasting impression on me and they don't deserve such hardship.
