Congratulations to all the winners of the inaugural Ability Media Interntational Awards, and to Leonard Cheshire Disability for the work they've put into getting Ability Media and the Awards started.

For those who tend to think there are just too many pointless awards ceremonies around these days these proved an uplifting antidote to the seemingly endless parade of celeb-led vacuity.

Celebrating "inclusion and diversity in the media" the AMIs were a wonderful and timely reminder that even in the age of 'Strictly-X-Factor-Celebrity get me out of here' the media can still provide that necessary spark of true inspiration and real humanity. With inspiration firmly in mind I thought I'd highlight three of the winners in the hope I can inspire you to check them out for yourselves...

Offscreen, a social enterprise that specialises in fostering cross cultural understanding between the UK, Middle East and Islamic world won the Photography Award.

Signdance Collective bring together theatre, live music sign language and film, check out some of their work on You Tube.

With World Aids Day just around the corner www.vir.us , the portal that Standard Chartered Bank launched, won the News and Information Media Award and is a really imaginative and compelling way to get the HIV awareness message across.
