Underwater Recycling Bins Create new blog
Underwater Recycling Bins

At Gulen Dive Resort in Norway, visiting divers can help maintain a healthy house reef by throwing litter in underwater bins.

"This unique recycling project not only helps support local wildlife, it also emphasises our responsibility to care for the underwater world" says Ørjan Sandnes, owner of Gulen Dive Resort.

Three litter bins give divers the opportunity to help maintain a healthy and debris free house reef. At regular intervals, often in conjunction with Project AWARE cleanup dives, the bins are emptied and the contents taken to a local recycling plant. This summer, 250 kilos of underwater debris was removed!

Removing marine debris is one way we can all take action to help the ocean adapt and become stronger in the face of climate change. Click Here to see more images of this unique Underwater Recycling project!

Hi Rachel as you know I'm also into recycling in my own way, but I would llike to share a thought with you and others about what's under water now, because the land is being washed away so much there's going to be they say not enough land for people and animals to live on in the future, with 70% of water now covering our planet Earth and only 30% for us to live on I say it's time we started to claim back the land from under the water, to help raise the land up again, to help stop some of the flooding, simply done by for example, just like a glass of water with a large stone put in it, it will over flow, take the stone out and the water level will drop. I've seen alot of poor people on TV digging mud or clay stuff out from under water with their hands to build walls to go around Rice fields, so why can't we use that idea but done in lots of different ways, for example some people have to live in houses built on poles to help keep dry, if my idea was used all over the world the new reclaimed land would stink for a while but Mother Nature would take over and put that right in time. In short take out the land that has fallern into the water, and the water level will lower, as the water it self will fill in the area it was taken from, just like the stone in a glass of water does when it's taken out. which I believe will save millions of live in the future, and Mother Nature will put things right under the water too, as she wants ALL things to live if she can, done in her own way. Thank you for letting me share my thoughts with you all. John.JRP recycling www.recycling.moonfruit.com also linked to Job Ebernezer www.technologyforthepoor@yahoo.com in the USA.

Hi. Rachel here from Community Channel. This sounds a great project.

I'm not a big underwater person, but I know how bad marine pollution is getting. 250 kilos of debris and rubbish this summer. It doesn't bear thinking about.

Good luck with the project!
