But as Rachel Baggaley, Christian Aid's HIV/AIDS spokesperson, finds as she travels the world, progress is not as good as it could be.
The major problem for people living with AIDS is funds and getting the funds to the communities where testing and treatment is needed.
UN AIDS envoy, Stephen Lewis, reminded delegates in Toronto that the Global Fund to fight AIDS was being let down by the very countries who set it up.

Stigma about the disease continues to exist in many countries. It prevents people getting testing, or introducing prevention programmes in their schools or communities.
But there are beacons of hope. Anarela is a church group supported by Christian Aid. Its work is revolutionary in that HIV positive church leaders are able to talk in their community about living with HIV.
This sobering film, which reminds us that HIV/AIDS is going to be a critical global issue for the next 25-50 years, encourages all campaigners to keep up the fight.
