Background
Volunteering for All
‘Volunteering for All’ is a two-year, Government funded programme designed to contribute to the Government’s target to raise levels of participation of socially excluded communities in volunteering.
The programme has three main components:
• Awareness-raising campaigns, led by Media Trust, which will reach out to communities in creative ways to stimulate demand for formal volunteering
• Tackling barriers to volunteering through crosscutting government-led policy work. For example, current work to clarify the application of benefits rules to volunteers.
• Opportunity Partnerships, demonstration projects, which will highlight the range and depth of volunteering opportunities that excluded communities, can participate in.
The project’s target is to actively involve the government’s target groups in volunteering. These priority groups are:
• people with no formal qualifications
• people from Black and Ethnic Minority Communities (BME)
• people with disabilities and/or limiting long-term illness (LLTI)
V4All centres on the over 25’s and targets four geographical regions which have lower than average levels of volunteering: North East, North West, Yorkshire / Humberside and London.
