Selling mugs
Clean Up mug sale
Clean It Up
The team from Highfields called themselves Clean It Up. Their social enterprise idea was to raise money by creating specially designed mugs and selling them.

At the sale they ran out of mugs but managed to secure additional orders!  The sale in turn was to generate funds to clean up parts of Matlock where litter was a blight on the landscape of this attractive market town.

At Phoenix they created a team called Dolly Movementz led by Latyah. They were 8 girls from year 8 who wanted to take young people off the streets and away from drugs and crime.

To do this they organised open mic sessions, where young people could listen to positive MCs, learn the ropes and even take to the mic themselves. The first session was dedicated to Kodjo Yenga, a local boy killed in March by a gang in Hammersmith Grove.

Generations
CD-Rom demo
Wilmington CD-Rom demo
Wilmington Enterprise College formed a team called Generations.  Their idea was to create a social enterprise to benefit older people in the community.

They decided to create a CD-Rom with tutorials created and narrated by them which would be a step by step approach on using the Internet.  They held an open day where they demonstrated the CD-Rom and the orders came rolling in!

The three teams competed for the award at a showdown at Deutsche Bank in London in front of a panel of leading social entrepreneurs.  The judging panel comprised Andy Thornton of Citizenship Foundation, Penny Newman, the co-founder of Cafedirect, Eric Samuel - Chief Executive Officer of Community Food Enterprise Ltd , and Nigel Kershaw, a leading social entrepreneur.
