Flying People Sun 14 Sep 11:30am

"I think what your eyesight does is confirm other senses," says James Robertshaw, kite flying world record holder and for two years personal assistant to Rory Heap as his blind consultant.

Flying People is a half hour documentary which provides an insight into Rory's experience as he learns from James how to fly kites using all his senses except sight.

Kite flying for Rory is a physical relationship in which the pull of the kite lines, the fluttering noises and the movements he has to make create an exhilerating experience.

This documentary looks at the trust that has developed between Rory and James - first as James guides Rory along crowded streets, and then as James helps Rory to achieve his goal of flying kites.

Rory's ambition to fly a figure of eight doesn't quite come off, but the enjoyment gained in the process is worth everything. But it is James who says he has gained most from their lessons, by gaining an understanding of what it is to rely on sound.
