Community Channel and Voluntary Arts England have awarded grants to help 39 voluntary amateur arts or crafts groups get new members and put on a show.

A range of local community organisations especially want to encourage people over 25 years-old with no formal qualifications or those living with a disability and/or long-term limiting illness, or from a Black Minority Ethnic community (specifically Bangladeshi, Pakistani or Chinese) to join in. 

Minister of the Third Sector, Phil Hope, MP, sent a message of support to the campaign and congratulated the award winners.

Grants ranging from £200 up to £1000 were awarded to these successful applicants who will be showing off their arts or crafts at the festival in Exhibition Square at the Metro Centre, Gateshead from Sunday 22nd July - Thursday 26th July.

Involves refugees and asylum seekers in the media and arts, using video to develop their language skills and find new ways to communicate.
