The Spice of Life is a seven part series on Indian perspectives mixed with a European flavour. It looks at how different cultures deal with growing older, getting an education, being an architect, living a gypsy's life and being disabled and other social issues.
Age No Bar - Episode 1
A film which looks at the lives of the elderly. It looks at how different cultures deal with the aging process. Nadia Stammeier, a German goes to India to find out what makes older Indian men and women tick. She finds that strong family values there often provide a support system that is rare in Germany.
In contrast Vijay Kutty goes to Munich to discover what it's like getting old in Germany. It's a film about solutions, not problems. Although the circumstances of the characters are different, they have one thing in common. A desire not to look back.
Connecting Lines - Episode 2
In Germany and other parts of Europe, fees for a university education have been introduced leading to fears of a lack of equality in education. But there are also inequalities in the Indian education system.
 Vikram in Connecting Lines This film looks at the issues from the standpoint of Indian student Leena Manimekalai and German student Michaela Kloiber. It examines their different lifestyles, thinking and expectations of the future when they leave university.
Elsewhere - Episode 3
This film explores the worlds of three young Muslims in India and Spain. It is about the pressures of identity, and the quest to live in an environment that pushes them to the margins. It contrasts the social pressures they face. In India, there is pressure from the community to conform, whereas in Spain the lifestyle is more relaxed and they are freer to do and wear what they like.
Gypsy Dreams - Episode 4
A look at the dreams and ambitions of two gypsies, one in India and one in Sweden. The lives of the two protagonists reveal the variety of social issues they confront.
Living Beyond Borders - Episode 5
This film looks at the issues and conflicts faced by immigrants in their host countries - Germans and Italians who have settled in India, and an Indian Punjabi family who have moved to Italy.
Passage to Dawn - Episode 6
This film looks at the difficulties of being a blind teenager. In India, blind teenagers face issues of economic insecurity, while in Spain the lack of companionship is the most prominent problem.
Your Space or Mine - Episode 7
An unusual look at the work two well known green architects - Laurie Baker in India and Bob Tomlinson in the UK, seen through the eyes of a singer and an artist.
