Sunday 22 July - The UP FOR ARTS Festival and showcase hit the main stage at MetroCentre, Gateshead.

Magic 1152 breakfast presenter Steve Colman entertained the audience and interviewed local people who are involved in voluntary arts and crafts throughout the region.

During the day, audiences at Exhibition Square were treated to the delights of

  • Bollywood Dance Workshops led by Sapnay,
  • traditional Chinese Fan Dancing, Tai Chi and Ribbon Dancing by the Newcastle Chinese Healthy Living Centre
  • Songs from the Shows by the internationally renowned Felling Male Voice Choir
  • Fashion show from Newcastle Mela
  • Percussion Workshops (including Dhol) with Jay Mistry

• East-West Fusion by DJ Pink Exhibitors included Houghton Art Club, Chinese Arts Association, Wansbeck Art Group, Exotic Card Making Group and Hindu Nari Sangh.

Children were catered for with colouring competitions and parents were encouraged to have a go and get involved too with a chance to win an UP FOR ARTS shopping bag.

Tyne Tees profiled UP FOR ARTS in the weekend evening news and The Journal featured the Festival outlining the range of activities taking part in the showcase.
Monday 23 July - The Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress of Newcastle, Councillor Peter Arnold and Mrs Barbara Arnold Grant hosted a Civic Reception at the Mansion House for the Arts and Crafts grant winners yesterday. Certificates were awarded to 39 voluntary groups who are taking part in the UP FOR ARTS Festival across the North East in recognition of all their hard work at getting people involved in voluntary arts.

Afternoon tea was followed by  music in the garden by Blyth Valley Samba School, with the Lord Mayor having a go, having fun and making music to the delight of his guests.
