Return Journey Amitee's Story

when is this on?

This isn't scheduled anytime soon.

This film follows Amitee Parashar as she travels to India to discover her history and learn more about her roots.

Amitee is one of a growing number of British Asians who want to keep a connection with India and a respect for the country of their ancestors.

Coming from Essex, she's nervous of the trip and says she's going to miss her bed, her hair straighteners, television - but mostly her hifi.

Amitee Parashar
Eye Opening Visit
Asians make up 4 % of the British population and there is a growing philanthropy movement connecting British Asian donors and volunteers with grassroots charities in South Asia.

Charities like SAATH which is an organisation of ordinary people who have partnered with slum dwellers in Ahmedabad.  Their work is supporting people, particularly women, so that they can save and work their way out of poverty.

Amitee's journey to Guptanagar in Ahmedabad is an eye opener for her.  It makes her realise how privileged she is in her own life, and hopes that the exchange can help make a difference.

The director of SAATH says that Amitee's is someone from the outside world who they can aspire to.

Return Journey Amitee's Story was made with assistance from The Asian Foundation for Philanthropy (AFP).
