when is this on?

This isn't scheduled anytime soon.

In 1947 after a protracted struggle, India achieved independence from Britain.  But thousands of people died in communal violence and it divided the country.  Fifteen million people became refugees.

This two-part documentary by film maker Supriyo Sen tells the story of his parents who had to leave their small town in East Bengal (present day Bangladesh) and went to Calcutta after partition.

Returning home
Memories and history
After 50 years, Sen takes them on an emotional journey back to their birthplace.

During the course of the journey, they talk about their home, their neighbours, their flight and their new life in independent India.

They reveal that they have physically adjusted their life in Calcutta, yet they remained mentally attached to their „Desh“ (home).

The film documents modern India’s history as Sen questions also the reasoning behind India‘s partition.  The film is also a statement on the plight of the refugee.

The film is in Bengali, with English subtitles.
