New Consumer TV - July 07 |
The first episode of New Consumer TV on the Channel in July 2007 looked at the arrival of organic cotton in our shops, how green cars are sexy at last, the facts behind wind power in Norfolk, and how architects can help turn our old homes green.
Organic Cotton
This fabric has finally reached the high street, but do those with a shopping habit know about it?
Adam Vaughan discovers that they don’t and to find out the facts he goes in search of top designer Katharine Hamnett who’s spent 17 years trying to raise awareness of the benefits of ethical clothes and the dangers of conventional cotton farming.
Sexy Green Car Show
Earlier this year the Eden Project in Cornwall held the Sexy Green Car Show which demonstrated the huge strides made by the major car manufacturers to turn us all into green car owners and drivers. Transport is the third largest source of CO2 emissions in the UK, and road transport is set to increase our carbon emissions. Watch this piece to find out whether you fancy a hydrogen car or a bio-ethanol one. We'll all end up driving green cars in the future, so find out about them now!
Wind Turbine
Wind power has a fascination for all of us, and Eleni Andreadis visited the only publicly accessible wind turbine in the UK run by green power supplier Ecotricity at Swaffham in Norfolk. She climbed the 300 steps to get a fantastic view from the top. The turbine supplies 1,000 homes with all their domestic electrical needs for one year, and the local population are looking forward to the additional six turbines planned.
Green Architect
The idea of having access to the experience and information of an architect to help you make your home green was what the recent Architect in the House week was all about. In this piece Adam Vaughan shows George Stowell of Architects Urban Design round his house and comes away with great information on the what to do in his kitchen, living room, loft, bathroom and garden. The week supports the charity Shelter and with its motto Reduce, Recycle, Repair, Adam has no excuse to start the greening of his home!
