Prize for film's young 'stars'

Chancellor Merkel with Dolly Movementz leaders

Creators of 'Dolly Movementz' - a young social enterprise project in the Giving Nation TV Challenge documentary series - collected the international Carl Bertelsmann Prize last week on behalf of the Citizenship Foundation.

Citizenship Foundation won the award for its educational citizenship projects, and is the first UK charity to do so.

Giving Nation TV Challenge is a series in which three UK schools compete to set up a successful social enterprise.

It was made by Media Trust Productions and commissioned by Citizenship Foundation and runs all this week on Community Channel.

'Dolly Movementz', a group from Phoenix High School - one of the schools participating in series - were held up by Citizenship Foundation chief executive, Tony Beslin, as an example of the success of "giving young people the tools to get involved" in a positive way in civic life.

The Bertelsmann Foundation chose the Citizenship Foundation's work from 200 programmes in 12 countries in their search for the organisation delivering the most effective educational projects that encourage young people's engagement with society.

The award ceremony was held in Guetersloh in Germany on 6 September, attended by German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
