 Extra Time for Victor Alaneme Professor David Richardson, director of the Wilberforce Institute for the Study of Slavery and Emancipation reconstructs the life of legendary Venture Smith, uncovering his fascinating story of triumph over adversity.

What can make three people from challenging backgrounds with no qualifications and uncertain futures give up their spare time to volunteer? The answer - football! This inspirational new film follows three people as they transform their lives and gain new skills through volunteering in the beautiful game.

 Mad for Music - Helen Premiere of five short films in the Channel’s Mad for … series, in which people with mental health issues choose a special piece of music that has had an impact on them and their lives.
James, 23, has a diagnosis of schizophrenia. Pink Floyd’s ‘Wish you were Here’ helps him cope with the trauma of being placed in a psychiatric ward. Teenager, Heather developed an eating disorder that rapidly became life threatening. She has chosen Coldplay’s ‘Talk’ because the lyrics reflect her experience in hospital when she felt desperate to talk about her mental state.
 Mad for Music - Chris For Helen, 42, the song ‘Days’ sung by Kirsty McColl had a huge impact on helping her cope with the depression and hallucinations she experienced. 52 year old Wayne turned to music, writing and singing - including a jazz funk version of 'Fever' - to help him recover from the sudden death of his wife.
Ex-piano tuner, Christopher was born partially sighted, but became blind and severely depressed in 1997. He turned to Ben E King’s song ‘Stand By Me’ with its message of the restorative power of love during hard times. He rediscovered the track when he joined a choir set up for people with mental health issues.
Those Who Are Jesus – on Tues 9 Oct @11.30pm
This powerful documentary offers a first hand insight into the real life experiences of three people with learning disabilities and / or mental health problems. The three individuals, who have had religious revelations, articulate their perspectives alongside the professionals they are determined to convince.
Comic Relief: It's a Mad World - on Wed 10 Oct @ 9pm
 Joseph Emidy As part of Comic Relief's commitment to raising awareness of mental health, this documentary explores the lives of people living with mental health problems and shows how Comic Relief cash can help them cope.

Joseph Emidy: The Lost Composer – Mon 15 Oct @ 7pm
His remarkable story spanned three continents as he overcame kidnapping, slavery, imprisonment and prejudice to become one of the finest composers of his generation. As biographers and historians put together the fragments of Emidy’s life, musicians continue to be inspired by his often overlooked musical talents.
 Freedom Sculpture The Freedom Sculpture – Wed 17 Oct @ 9.30pm
This sculpture is a memorial to the abolition of slavery two hundred years ago. Follow its journey from conception on the streets of Port-Au-Prince in Haiti, to its new home at the International Slavery Museum in Liverpool, and meet the young Haitians and artists who have created it from recycled objects, including junk metal and scrap.
Wales and Slavery: The Untold Story – Fri 19 Oct @ 9.30pm
This year marks the bicentenary of the abolition of slavery in Britain. BBC Sports journalist Sean Fletcher discovers how Welsh history was in part shaped by the slave trade. The influence of the trade is evident to this day in the multicultural heritage of South East Wales.

These four half hour programmes celebrate people who have overcome huge odds to achieve extraordinary things. The four interviewees have all performed at the highest level in their chosen fields. Their experiences are entertaining, thought provoking and inspiring.
The four Trailblazers are:
Actor George Harris whose film credits including: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Black Hawk Down, Layer Cake and the latest Harry Potter film. Director Alrick Riley, who is the first and only black British director to win a BAFTA, with directing credits that include: Cops, Spooks, Hustle, and Hotel Babylon.
 Journalist-Precious Williams Journalist Precious Williams who works for top magazines and newspapers in the UK, USA and Germany. And Paul Crooks who’s spent twenty years on a quest to trace his ancestry. His critcally acclaimed novel, Ancestors, was inspired by the search for his African roots.
Tree Fellers – UK Premiere – Thurs 25 Oct @ 9.30pm
Tells the story of a group of lumberjacks who left the tropical rainforests of British Honduras in 1942 to come to Britain to help fight fascism.
Sam (93), Eric (87) and Amos (86) were among those who stayed on after the war to make new lives. Newly discovered archive, long cherished memories and a reunion are intertwined in this moving documentary.
Green Shorts – UK Premiere – Fri 26 Oct @ 10.00pm
100 students, five films, three days and one planet to save in Green Shorts premiering exclusively on Community Channel’s platform Charge. Watch out for - a superhero on a mission to repair the planet, birds with attitude problems, talking trees and a daring scenario that makes water the new currency.
