Between a Rap ...
Between a Rap and a Hard Place is the story of the London Urban Collective a unique youth music project.
Thirty young people are chosen from open auditions across London to rap, record and promote their own album for independent release and mentored by industry professionals at every stage.
The project is now in its third year and has helped launch several careers and provide a platform for emerging talent.
The work is intensive. The film follows three weeks of training in life skills, motivation, vocals, audio production, performance, lyrics writing and industry networking.
Collaboration is a key part of the project. The musicians have to collaborate with each other and work alongside established producers and guest artists in major recording studios.
Harry Leckstein, one of the driving forces behind LUC, says it's about connecting young people to the industry.
Jay King, his business partner, says the aim is to: ".. do it in a professional environment and give young people a reality check. Show them it's serious and takes hard work".
The results are positive and life changing.
