 Social entrepreneur, mentor Powerful programmes mark our December line up.
Mentoring is our main focus for the month with programmes on all aspects of mentoring. We also get first hand personal experiences of mentoring from entrepreneurs Tim Campbell and Levi Roots, Olympic athlete Mark Hylton, journalist Philip Webster, and many others.
To start the month, we have a weekend of in depth programmes on HIV/AIDS to mark World AIDS Day (1 Dec). The Missing Face with actor Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman and another powerful documentary - A Closer Walk.
 Ewan McGregor on HIV/AIDS And every Sunday we'll feature the Best of 2007 starting with Journey to Darfur with George Clooney.
30 Nov - 2 Dec (HIV/AIDS Weekend)
MTV: Staying Alive - 48 Fest 2007: Kenya - Fri 30 Nov @ 9pm
Kanye West and Kelly Rowland appear in this film where 30 young people from around the world were given just 48 hours to produce a 3-minute film about women and HIV/AIDS. The result is a series of moving films.
MTV: Staying Alive - Testing Diaries - Fri 30 Nov @ 9.30pm
Rock band Good Charlotte hosts this documentary that follows 3 young adults from India, Jamaica and Ghana as they decide to get tested for HIV. They hope to de-stigmatise HIV testing and encourage people to get tested.
A Closer Walk - UK Premiere - Sat 1 Dec @ 9pm
This film focusses on the personal stories of children, women and men from around the world who are living with HIV and AIDS. It's made by top director and producer, Robert Bilheimer and narrated by Glenn Close and Will Smith. Interviews with the Dalai Lama, Bono, Kofi Annan, and musical contributions from Annie Lennox, Eric Clapton and Sade.
 George Clooney on a mission The Missing Face -- UK Premiere - Sun 2 Dec @ 9pm
An emotional one hour documentary in which actor Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman look at the scale of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in sub-Saharan Africa and bring to light how children in particular are affected and its impact on their daily lives.
Journey To Darfur (Best of 2007) - Sun Dec 2 @ 8pm
Take a journey to Darfur with George Clooney and his father, veteran US Journalist Nick Clooney, and learn how and why they became involved in the campaign to save Darfur. The film also shows what has happened since their visit to the troubled region in western Sudan in 2006.
3-9 December - UN International Volunteer Day (5 Dec)
 Attend - volunteers The Channel is showing a selection of new short films made pro-bono by volunteers in the TV industry on Wed Dec 5 @ 7.30pm.
Attend - celebrates the diverse volunteering opportunities in the health sector. Timebanks - ‘Timebanking’ is the 21st Century’s answer to volunteering. This film explores this new phenomenon and shows how one community is banking its volunteering time in exchange for getting help from others.
Chinese Mental Health Association - Gambling addiction is a common problem in the Chinese community. This Association trains volunteers to offer support to gambling addicts and their families. ShopMobility Manchester - Paul has learning difficulties. He is also one of ShopMobility Manchester's star volunteers and helps fellow people with disabilities and mobility problems to get out and about. Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter - Newcastle Cat and Dog Shelter rescues and helps ill-treated animals across the North East. It wouldn’t be able to operate without the lifeline that is its volunteers.
Oxygen - Thurs 6 Dec @ 7pm
A new magazine programme which travels with Oxfam to see the humanitarian disaster in the camps in Chad, a thriving community building its own houses in Brazil. We also follow actor Bill Nighy to sees how aid is translating into life changing projects in Maasai communities in Tanzania, and how improved food growing schemes in western Honduras are transforming lives there.
 Tommy's Story Green Shorts (Mentoring) Fri 7 Dec @ 10pm
Budding film-makers from five schools in the London Borough of Hounslow were set the challenge of making five short films inspired by threats faced by the environment. The result is Green Shorts, premiering on the Channel’s youth platform Charge. They were mentored by professionals from BskyB and environmental volunteering charity BTCV.
Living Landmarks - Sat 8 Dec @ 7pm (repeated on Sun 9 Dec @ 7pm)
This one hour programme features the four shortlisted projects competing to win £50 million and become a new national landmark in the Big Lottery £50 million giveaway. The public will vote for the winning project.
Tommy’s Story (Best of 2007) - Sun 9 Dec @ 8pm
Follow budding actor and soap enthusiast, Tommy Jessop, as he lands his first big TV break in BBC One's Holby City. The film, made by Tommy’s brother William, provides a revealing portrait of a young actor with Down's Syndrome.

James Robertshaw, kite flying world record holder mentors Rory Heap who is blind and wants to fly kites. The story of their relationship and achievements.
Friends Indeed (Mentoring) - Tues 11 Dec @ 7am/7pm
This one hour documentary looks at five examples of mentoring and befriending across the UK. There are 5,000 mentoring and befriending schemes in Britain.

Lee McConville's extraordinary journey from the violent gang-ridden streets of Lozells to the exclusive briefings at the G8 summit in Germany guided by top political journalist Philip Webster of The Times.

Behind the scenes of a project where 200 young people from disadvantaged backgrounds worked with the Birmingham Royal Ballet to overcome obstacles and fulfil their potential.
Between a Rap and a Hard Place (Mentoring/Best of 2007) - Sun 16 Dec @ 8pm
Now in its third year, the London Urban Collective (LUC) helps thirty young aspiring musicians in London to write, record and promote their own album for independent release, mentored by industry professionals – including Shola Ama.

Agents for Change - Wed 19 Dec @ 10pm
This programmes looks at a new set of Beacon fellows who were recognised on 22 November and particularly at Alexander McLean whose Africa Prisons Project was awarded the top prize in what has been dubbed as the Nobel Prize of the charity world.
Louie, Me & Hepatitis C (Best of 2007) - Sun 23 Dec @ 8pm
This documentary follows Gemma Peppe through a year’s gruelling treatment of Hepatitis C. It shows the impact it has on her relationship with her teenage son, Louie, and her investigation into public, political and medical professional ignorance of the disease that recently claimed the life of Dame Anita Roddick.

Milan, Paris, Southwark (Mentoring) Sun 30 Dec @ 8pm
In November 2000 after the death of Damilola Taylor, the Metropolitan Police launched a project to help engage young South Londoners in constructive activities and positive behaviour. A group of young fashion lovers from South London were chosen in a competition to make their own fashion collections, with the help of industry mentors including Zandra Rhodes and Wale Adeyemi.
Peace One Day - Sun 30 Dec @ 9pm
Jeremy Gilley's mission to create a global day of peace. It charts how he lobbied politicians and bureaucrats to make his big idea happen. September 21 is now UN International Day of Peace.
