Peace One Day

In 1999 former actor Jeremy Gilley had a great idea. He was going to create a day on earth on which there would be no killing. But for this to happen Gilley had to turn himself into a one-man lobbyist and political activist.

The film Peace One Day charts the way in which he makes this happen.  September 21 is now UN International Day of Peace.

The film shows how Jeremy gathered a team of volunteers and celebrities and went in pursuit of bureaucrats and politicians who might make this happen.

Jeremy's scheme comes to fruition at exactly the wrong moment. He announced his day of peace at precisely the moment when the planes hit the Twin Towers on 9/11.

Peace One Day is a strange but winning documentary - an absorbing film, but also a not wholly discouraging commentary on our times.

Peace One Day is a BBC Storyville documentary.  To find out more about Jeremy Gilley's campaign, go to the Peace One Day website
