 Mad for Music - Helen In February we're screening some Channel favourites, starting with the Mad for Music short films - which you can also watch online in our new video gallery. Don't forget to watch full screen!
And there's another chance to watch the Jon Snow Interviews. Made in 2005, Jon talks to high profile people who have made a real impact by volunteering and he explores how they started out and what motivated them.

A short film exploring the impact of music on the mind, in which Helen explains why the song ‘Days’ by Kirsty MacColl helped her overcome suicidal depression and enabled her to cope as a mother to her young daughter.

Wayne chose the track 'Fever' by Ronnie Laws to help bring him back from the brink after the sudden loss of his wife Paulette. It evokes painful memories but also reminds him of the wonderful relationship.

 Mad for Music - James Jon Snow Interviews - Esther O'Callaghan - Wed 30 Jan @ 8.30pm
In 2005, Esther O’Callaghan was the youngest board member of The Big Lottery Fund and through the Factory Foundation, provides free music workshops for disadvantaged young people. She first volunteered in a local Blackpool college working with young people with learning difficulties. She has a string of other volunteer and community credits.

Mad for Music - James - Thurs 31 Jan @ 6.55pm
In this film James talks about his passion for Pink Floyd and in particular the song ‘Wish you were Here’. The song has great meaning for him, and he describes how it helped him cope with his diagnosis of schizophrenia and the trauma of being placed in a psychiatric ward.

 Jon Snow with Lenny Henry Ex-piano tuner, Christopher was born partially sighted. In 1997 he had a severe attack of glaucoma and as a result became completely blind. He spiralled into severe depression, and eventually found that Ben E King classic ‘Stand By Me’ and singing with a choir helped him recover.

Britain’s most successful paralympic athlete, Tanni Grey-Thompson, talks about getting a better deal for those with a disability, and about sport and her political aspirations. She describes how spina bifida left her in a wheelchair from the age of seven, and how her phenomenal success as an athlete has a lot to do with volunteering.

My Wee African Village - Tues 26 Feb @ 8.30pm
Qasim Rufique and his father Sohail own an exotic fruit shop in Possilpark, Glasgow. They set up shop 20 years ago, selling African and Caribbean foods after being inspired to bring the island taste of the Seychelles to Glasgow. Now Qasim wants to bring something new and fresh to the community once again. His dream is to transform a run-of-the-mill supermarket into an African village.
