Renowned war artist John Keane travelled to Angola in 2006 to discover the issues faced by millions of young people living in this previously war torn country.

Angola in the Frame is a documentary which follows Keane’s journey as he visits organisations in the capital, Luanda, and the remote southerly area of Mavinga in Kuando Kubango province.

New Exhibition

During his visit, Keane gains the inspiration for a series of 11 new paintings commissioned by Christian Aid, which will featured in an exhibition - John Keane: Angola, at Flowers Central Gallery in London in March 2008.

About John Keane

Born in Hertfordshire in 1954, Keane attended Camberwell School of Art, rising to national prominence in 1991 when he was appointed as official British war artist during the Gulf War.

His work has always been deeply concerned with conflict - military, political and social - in Britain and around the world.

His vivid and politically charged paintings from Angola, which he spent a year creating, capture the complex realities of contemporary war and, in particular, the situation of children in conflict.

The documentary weaves this creative process together with the powerful stories of the people he met and documented.

It is both an intimate portrait of an artist at work, and of a country redefining its future after 27 years of civil war.
