Volunteer Films matches filmmakers with charities in need of a promotional film.

INFORMATION FOR CHARITIES

Volunteer Films is open to any charity in England with an annual revenue of less that £2million. We are particularly keen to hear from charities with compelling stories, visually interesting subjects or interesting work.

Charities are asked to pay a one off fee of £1,000, for which they receive:

  • A 3-5min broadcast quality film made by professional filmmakers about the charity
  • A DVD master of the film
  • A version suitable for streaming onto a website
  • All rushes (original unedited footage)
  • PR/Marketing advice on how to use the film affectively, supported by Media Trust’s Media Matching service
  • Guaranteed broadcast on Community Channel

As of 7th April 2008, we are no longer accepting applications for the 4th series of Volunteer Films. We hope to begin series 5 from September 2008 but this depends on funding which has not yet been confirmed.

INFORMATION FOR FILMMAKERS
The TV and video production industry has a gift – the gift to tell a story, to engage and to entertain. Communication is exactly what small not-for-profit organisations need, but often lack funds or know-how to produce.

By volunteering to help these charities, you can use your expertise to help others, and at the same time, develop your skills within the industry. By the very nature of being a charity, these organisations offer compelling content, real life stories and visually exciting activities to film. We need your help to get their work seen and heard.

Production Companies
Volunteer Films needs the help of production companies who are willing to support their keen and enthusiastic staff in terms of providing equipment, edit facilities, time, advice and industry contacts. Use it as an opportunity to encourage your staff, support their desire to gain more experience and see what talents lie within your team. Support your local community, and you never know, you could discover great content for your next pitch.

Producers
We are interested in producer/directors and assistant producers wanting to take on a film in its entirety. You’ll be asked to meet the charity, come up with an idea and approach and see the project through until the end. It would be helpful if you could shoot and/or edit, or are well resourced in finding people or equipment.

Camera/sound/editors
We are compiling a list of production crew who would like to volunteer. If you have specific technical skills, we can put you in contact with producers or production companies who need your help to make a volunteer film.

Facility Houses
If you are a camera rental company or post-production facility house willing to donate your equipment, staff and time, please get in touch.
