Ewan and Charley: Malawi

watch nowwatch now

In the final part of our exclusive 3-part series, Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman find out what's being done to support children affected by HIV AIDS in Malawi.

On Community Channel on Sunday 11 May @ 7.30 pm

Malawi

Ewan and Charley describe their visit to the child care centre in rural Chimteka as a really positive experience, despite the fact most of the children there are orphans and have lost parents to HIV AIDS.

More than half a million children in Malawi have lost one or both parents because of AIDS, and 15 per cent of the population is now living with HIV.

Centres like this new one at Chimteka are run by the community and supported by UNICEF. They provide young children with nourishing meals, basic health care and education.

At Chimteka care centre
The children are encouraged to enjoy being children - and Ewan and Charley join in - and it gives their guardians the opportunity to work in the fields and earn a living.

Ewan and Charley always wanted to get an insight into Africa and its people on this journey and as they reflect on their trip through Ethiopia, Uganda and Malawi they already understand the difficult issues that need to be tackled.
