In 2000 Glasgow officially welcomed the arrival of asylum seekers in Scotland.

This film, made over many months tells the stories, past and present, of five individuals or families of differing circumstances, ages and nationalities.

It tells of the extraordinary and yet common place circumstances which have brought them to Scotland and explores the difficulties they experience, and their fears and aspirations.

Sumaya and her son Anamr fled Iraq after Anmar lost his right arm to a cluster bomb and needed a toe transplant to give him a new thumb on his left hand.

The Albano family from Angola are surviving on their own since their mother left them. Desire fled Burundi after his family was killed.

The Habib family from Iran have an autistic son and are also seeking asylum, as is Henriette from the Congo.

The film explores each person’s story and the outcomes of their asylum applications - some happy and some not so happy.

This documentary also offers an insight into the diverse refugee culture in the UK.
