Alex James, former Blur musician-turned-farmer, goes on a real voyage of discovery when he travels to Burkina Faso, West Africa in the film Alex James in Africa: Farming for a Future.

Describing the country as "chic, laid back and very, very hot", James' mission is to see how farmers there have already adapted to harsh conditions brought on by global warming.

He picks up a host of new ideas and techniques which enable the Burkinabe, with support from Christian Aid, to nourish their soil and cultivate crops during extremely wet and dry seasons.

Demi-lunes, rock belts, and neem bio-pesticides now give farmers of this once barren land much greater food security all year round.

Talking to farmers about their techniques, James is clearly totally engaged with what he finds and the people he meets.

His rendition of "A Windmill in Old Amsterdam" in response to being serenaded by villagers is a performance without equal!

The premiere coincides with the Royal Show (3 – 6 July) at Stoneleigh in Warwickshire, where Alex James and Christian Aid are re-creating a small piece of Burkina Faso to showcase the farmers’ work.
