Helping others ... The Film
Presented by ‘Britain’s Missing Top Model’ finalist Sophie Morgan, this documentary celebrates the role of volunteers who have personal experience of disability in a range of organisations across Britain.
This revealing documentary challenges preconceptions about volunteering and gives recognition to the people who dedicate their own time to help make a difference.
Organisations that Sophie visits include:
> The Back Up Trust – a national charity that supports people, young and old, with spinal cord injuries and an organisation with which she has personal links.
> The Middleton Park Equestrian Centre, which supports Mencap volunteers and Breakthrough UK in Ardwick Manchester, a charity dedicated to promoting the rights, responsibilities and respect of disabled people.
> East Riddlestone Hall, part of the National Trust, where Mencap Volunteers with learning disabilities play an important role piloting visitor activities to ensure they are safe and fun.
> Self Help Services, a user-led mental health charity in Manchester that benefits from the skill and impact of people working and volunteering within the charity who have had personal experiences of mental ill health.
> Neurosupport in Liverpool shows the contribution of volunteers who have had experience of neurological conditions including Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, brain tumors and Alzheimer’s allowing them to offer a unique perspective to other users.
