Courageous feats
Our highlights in September start with an evening dedicated to the courage and achievements of Jane Tomlinson on the first anniversary of her death.  We are also featuring new programmes about the challenges and achievements of people with disabilities.


1st - 7th September


Jane Tomlinson Night - Wed 3 Sept from 8.00 pm 

Marking the one-year anniversary of her death, this evening of programmes looks back at her life, celebrates her bravery and determination and recognises the astounding legacy she left behind. The evening will be hosted by Mike Tomlinson who continues the great work started by Jane through ‘Jane's Appeal’.

  • The Ride of her Life, @ 8.00 pm:
    A moving documentary following Jane and her brother Luke as they cycle over 1000 miles from one end of the British mainland to the other.
  • Rome to Home, @ 8.30 pm:
    A look back at the journey of tireless campaigner Jane Tomlinson and her 2500 miles cycle ride from Rome to Home in just 36 days.
  • Jane Across America, @ 9.30 pm:
    This documentary follows Jane’s final athletic challenge to cycle 4200 miles coast-to-coast across America, raising over £25,000 for charity.

Sport's Unsung Heroes - Thurs 11 Sept @ 7.30 pm
These are the amazing people behind the sports stars of tomorrow. This moving 30-minute documentary captures the stories of the extraordinary nominees and winner of the 2007 BBC Sport's ‘Unsung Hero Award’. The film brings together the 15 recipients from across the UK and shows how they dedicate their lives to encouraging sport in the community.



15th - 21st September

In Focus - Thurs 18 Sept @ 7.00 pm
Introduced by Richard Attenborough, In Focus features a range of film professionals talking about their work and their experiences of disability in this exciting and challenging sector.

Coping Strategies
- Sat 20 Sept @ 6.30 pm
Bill Nighy makes a guest appearance in this brilliant film by the Moment by Moment Theatre Company, a group comprised of actors with and without learning disabilities. A surreal comedy that explores what happens when Shahid, fed up with the tag ‘learning disabled’, leaves his doting mother for the allure of love, life and freedom in an independent home.

Helping Others Can Help U
- Sunday 21st September @ 7:00 pm
Presented by ‘Britain’s Missing Top Model’ finalist Sophie Morgan, this documentary celebrates the role of volunteers who have personal experience of disability in a range of organisations from across the country.



22nd - 28th September

Your SportNew Series - Mon 22 Sept
A new weekly series - Your Sport - celebrates the benefits of grassroots sport to individuals and their communities. The show will provide a regular space for local grassroots clubs and organisations from across the country to feature their news and events. Dame Kelly Holmes, a dedicated supporter of community sport, will be making regular appearances.
