	Kerry's Story

Kerry's Story

Kerry is a young woman with learning and physical disabilities but lives life as fully as her identical but not disabled twin.  She's a young mother with a full social life and is determined to help others with disabilities achieve their dreams.

Kerry developed meningitis as a baby and was left with cerebral palsy in both arms.  She also has learning difficulties. 

She had a happy childhood alongside her twin, but began finding herself struggling academically behind other children her age.

Kerry amazed everyone as a teenager when she announced she was pregnant.  Against the wishes and opinions of some people who thought she wouldn’t cope, she has successfully managed to bring up her daughter Kia with her family's support and help. 

Kerry's determined to live an independent life and to bring up her daughter herself.  To help her achieve this, Kerry gets instruction from an occupational therapist.  She also attends sexual health lessons and helps advise other disabled people on relationships. 

She has to travel alone to these meetings which has gradually helped build her confidence.  She even takes part in kick-boxing lessons. 

Her life has developed so much that her twin sister now looks to Kerry for advice as she has a little daughter too.
