Butterfly is short documentary about a young Scottish swimmer with albinism called Gemma Sherry

Albinism is a genetic inherited condition whereby no melanin is produced leaving a person with scant or no pigment in their eyes, hair or skin.

It means like other albinos, Gemma only has 20-40% vision, she has uncontrolled eye movement and is extremely sensitive to light.

In Butterfly, Gemma tells her story.  Her early schooldays among children she already knew was happy.  She was fearless and began to swim, joining the Jets disabled swimming team.

But at secondary school her life changed.  She was among more than 1,000 kids she didn't know and needed help to get around.

She hated the limitations.  But a chance meeting with members of the Albinism Fellowship changed her life for the better.  Meeting others with the same condition gave her the self confidence she needed to make her way in the world.

She's now swimming again, coaching kids and has taken up climbing.  She's training to be a sports therapist and says the only disadvantage is she's not allowed to drive.
