This hour-long film chronicles singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland’s journey to three African countries where she meets young people affected by HIV/AIDS. They tell their  stories and explain how they protect others in their communities from getting infected.

It is an emotional experience for Rowland. “The trip has changed my life. I can’t describe the joy I felt in meeting so many heroes that continue to change the world with their stories about HIV and AIDS” Rowland says.

Her first destination is South Africa where she gives a sell out concert. “One of my favourite moments on stage was when I performed Survivor as part of a Destiny’s Child medley. I felt like it took such a new meaning, especially when I’m now a part of MTV ‘s Staying Alive Foundation,” she recalls.

In Tanzania she visits a school, where together with all the students she watches a group called TAYOPA. They are a performance group who travel to different places and use song and dance to raise awareness about HIV and AIDS.

In Kenya young females are five to six times more vulnerable to HIV infection than boys their own age. Here, Rowland gets tested for HIV in an effort to encourage young people to follow her lead.

Sometimes shocking, sometimes humorous, the programme portrays the lives and thoughts of some remarkable and inspirational young people.

Kelly Rowland is an ambassador for MTV’s Staying Alive Foundation which is an international HIV AIDS mass media awareness and prevention campaign.

The Foundation’s  objective is to promote safer lifestyle choices and to fight the stigma and discrimination which are a big part of the HIV epidemic.
