Story Story: Voices from the market is one of the most successful and long-running radio soap operas in Nigeria.

Set in a fictional Nigerian village, it aims to encourage people and communities to demand better health and education services and tackles issues like corruption of local government.

Story Story: Voices from the Market

This episode takes us to the school, where, Montu, one of the main characters of the drama introduces a new young pupil to the teacher of a local school.

It turns out that that small Frank is Montu’s son that nobody has ever heard about. Montu has to face up people’s difficult questions and convince them that he has not been hiding his past.

A parallel storyline develops around Madame Fati, a wife of the Chairman Rasheed, who tries to save her husband from prison, as he is in serious debt.

Unfortunately her attempts to raise a sum of money to help him, are doomed. People try to take advantage of her situation, persuading her to contribute to illegal business and blackmailing her.

Story Story is part funded by the UK's Department for International Development (DFID). Thirteen series have been broadcast in English on 57 stations around Nigeria and on the BBC World Service.  Versions have also been produced in three local languages.
