The Community Channel is showing a series of inspirational films written and created by young people.

The films are the result of the '2008 Channel 4 and Mediabox filmmaking competition', which gave ten disadvantaged 13-19 year olds the opportunity to write, direct and produce their own short documentaries.

This innovative competition, launched in July '08, asked young people to write a short synopsis of their idea for a film, inspired by an issue they were passionate about.

Hundreds of young people entered the competition, ten finalists were selected and assigned a film industry mentor to guide them through the filmmaking process.

The young people and their mentors also attended an intensive practical filmmaking workshop on Channel 4. The mentors were provided by Media Trust's Youth Mentoring scheme which links disadvantaged young people to media industry professionals.

This year's films include Conditions by Jordan Rolfe, which looks at how beatboxing, drumming and circus skills help him to cope with Tourettes and Sarah Coupe's film It's My Life providing an insight into life on a cocktail of medicines.
