Lording It

when is this on?

This isn't scheduled anytime soon.

'Lording It' is a special documentary which follows three young people, as they prepare to play a key role in an historic debate at The House of Lords.

Background

On Friday 10th July of this year The House of Lords opened its chamber to young people for a ground breaking debate about overcoming youth stereotypes and celebrating young people's talents.

Chaired by the Lord Speaker, Baroness Hayman, over 200 young people took part in the debate, which was the first and only time that non-members will enter the chamber this year.

Three in the House

Those attending come from different backgrounds and parts of the country, many of them having to deal with challenging situations every day. For many the world of mainstream politics seems vastly removed from their lives.

three young debatersAmong them were Theo 22, who found himself homeless in his teenage years, Abbey a 17 year old asylum seeker from Nigeria and Linda, a 14 year old from London who has two disabled brothers.

'Lording It' follows these three on their journey to the Lords, providing an insight into what matters to them and how their role in the debate gives them a sense of empowerment.

The debate in the House of Lords was the culmination of thousands of events which took place during Shine Week (6-10 July) - the national festival that celebrates young people's talents.
