Win My Vote

This year Community Channel joined forces with The Times to take two young reporters, and first time voters, V.Go and Candice, to party conferences.

They've been asking politicians how they will 'win their vote', giving audiences an alternative view of one of the biggest political events of the year.

At the Liberal Democrats conference reporter Candice, 18, was given the chance to grill Nick Clegg about the issues she cares about, including fair trade and education. Read about her experiences in The Times here.

Passing on the baton, V.Go, from Easton, a deprived area of Bristol, came face to face with the Prime Minister to ask him about rising unemployment in Britain. Having spent two years unemployed on job seekers allowance before recently finding a temporary job in Primark, it is an issue of particular importance to him. He also quizzed Gordon Brown about The Sun's decision to withdraw support from Labour. Read about his interview in The Times here.

V.Go went on to meet the Conservative leader, David Cameron, pointing out that many people do not understand the parliamentary system and think of it as irrelevant to them. Read about his interview in The Times here.

The reporters were guided along their journey with tips and hints from top journalists including James Harding, George Pascoe-Watson, Andrew Neil, Jon Snow, Nick Robinson and John Stapleton.

V.Go and Candice carried out their task through Mediabox, the fund that enables young people to create media projects and get their voices heard. They were selected from the thousands of young people that Mediabox has helped since its launch in 2006.

Mediabox is a Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) fund, delivered by a consortium led by First Light and Media Trust.

The relationship between The Times and Media Trust dates back to 2007, when Philip Webster, its political editor, became a mentor for Lee McConville, from Lozells in Birmingham. Webster took him to the G8 summit in Germany, and their journey was documented in the award winning Summit About the Boy.
