Being Breast Aware
Being Breast Aware"Mine are quite soft, very round and firm." "Mine are a wee bit pear shaped." "One might be a little bit smaller than the other but not much... still a good handful!"

The women of a confectionery factory are not describing their latest batch of chocolate buns - this time the conversation is all about their breasts.

Presented by actress Linda Robson (from Birds of a Feather) this short programme encourages everyone to be more ‘breast aware’. It also offers advice on what to do if you notice anything that’s different or unusual.

Women and men talk openly about their breasts and how they examine them for any signs of cancer. As Robson tells us, "Breasts – we’ve all got them but no two pairs are the same. From the beginning of their existence they’re on a journey of their own. From the first day they appear they never stop changing for the rest of our lives."

Being Breast AwareIt’s not just women that have to be breast aware however. Breast cancer in men is an area covered by the programme that many viewers might find surprising. Tim was one of the small number of men in the UK who contract breast cancer and, like many men, was totally unaware it is a disease that can affect men too. When his nipples became very sensitive and inverted, Tim contacted his doctor and soon after underwent a mammogram and subsequent operation.

The programme contains lots of personal stories and useful advice from professionals such as Liz Cheeseman, a specialist nurse from Breast Cancer Care. A programme definitely not to be missed for men and women of all ages.
