Bewick Court - A Musical

Bewick Court is a musical built around a poem on the lives and experiences of the residents of a tower block in Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

"It was about putting a face on a faceless tower block in the heart of Newcastle," says its filmmaker, Anton Hecht.

And to do it he brought together the residents who are all very different and many of whom weren't at first very musical.

Anton Hecht is a playful filmmaker and artist who attempts to breakdown traditional disciplines and boundaries.

The "singing documentary" was premiered at the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead in June 2009, and is part of Northern Film & Media's Capture 2009 scheme, which supports films inspired by communities and people in the North East of England.

Capture 2009 is a partnership between Northern Film & Media, Community Channel and Channel 4's FourDocs.
