Cause Celeb: Lord Brockett
Cause Celeb: Lord BrockettLord Brocket shot to fame when he appeared in the reality TV series 'I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!' He donated £150,000 raised from the jungle to the charity Sargent Cancer Care for Children. Sargent helps children and young adults diagnosed with cancer.

Lord Brocket says: "If you are in the public eye you have a duty to support charities. I have the ability to command appearance fees now and if that falls on your plate then give it to charity. I’ve got my own children and I’ve seen children suffer. If you’re going to help people with an illness then you want to help people with their whole lives ahead of them."

Lord Brocket met 21 year-old Rebecca Gostling at the charity’s high profile fundraising ball in March 2004. Rebecca was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 19 and her family is one of the many supported by the work of Sargent. The charity provides trained social workers to families living with cancer and support them through the diagnosis period.

Rebecca says, "I wouldn’t have known lots of things without my care worker Stella. She helped me get a disabled badge so my family could park nearer the hospital because I couldn’t walk. She also helped me get a grant from Sargent because I needed new clothes after losing so much weight from the chemotherapy."

Stella Bilous helped Rebecca and her family deal with cancer by providing practical and emotional help. She says, "Rebecca would just ring me out of the blue and say I’m very upset. She lost her whole lifestyle and I helped her say to her people: 'I have got cancer but I am normal.' Families can talk to me confidentially and tell me how they are feeling. I am a shoulder to cry on as well as helping with the practical side."

Lord Brocket says of the charity, "(They're) providing a service that is really badly needed that the Government doesn’t provide, that the health service doesn’t provide and parent’s can’t provide. They’re not qualified and they need help as much as the kids are suffering."

Lord Brocket continues to raise funds for Sargent Cancer Care for Children and the record he made with fellow Jungle inmates, Neil 'Razor' Ruddock and DJ Mike Reid, went straight into the top 40 of the charts. Some of the money raised went towards the charity.
