Jon Snow
Jon Snow hosts the Ageing Debate
Digital TV station Community Channel has made a 60-minute round-table debate show, The Ageing Debate, presented by Jon Snow, in collaboration with Channel 4’s The Trouble with Old People season.

The film will broadcast on Community Channel on Monday, March 27th at 10pm, immediately after the first documentary in Channel 4’s season, Tony Robinson: Me and My Mum. At the end of the Tony Robinson documentary, Channel 4 will ask viewers to turn over to Community Channel as Jon Snow debates the issues raised in the film with contributors and experts.

The debate discusses the challenges for the care system and gets to grips with what it means to be old in 21st century Britain. Topics discussed include where the elderly figure on the priority list, home care, residential homes and the quality of their staff and Dementia and the care that these sufferers receive.

The guests debating these issues are 80-year-old Brian Groombridge from Older People’s Advisory Group, Better Government for Older People, Caroline White of the Alzheimer’s Society, Gillian Crosby, Director of Centre For Policy on Ageing, Jane Ashcroft, Director of Care Services of Anchor Trust and Daniel Blake from Action on Elder.

The producer and director is Tricia Lawton and executive producer is Community Channel Controller Nick Ware.

The Me and My Mum documentary itself is an intensely moving film where Tony Robinson looks at how we care for our parents, as they get older. It's a deeply personal issue for Tony, whose 89-year-old mum Phyllis suffers from dementia and lives in a care home.

Nick Ware, Community Channel Controller, said: “We’re delighted to be working closely with Channel 4 and appreciate their support and ideas for the show. I’m hopeful it’s the first of many collaborations with them. The debate gives us the opportunity to explore deeper into the issues and link viewers to those charities and organisations that work in this area. Jon Snow, as ever, excels himself with a group of very interesting guests.”

Simon Dickson, Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor, Documentaries, said: “Our first preview of Tony Robinson: Me and My Mum provoked a lot of interesting questions and I thought it would fit very well on Community Channel as a debating programme. I’m glad to be working with Community Channel on a season we’re very proud of at Channel 4 and I’m sure there will be many more opportunities to work together in the near future.”
