Lammas - a model for the future? |
|
The Lammas project aims to establish an eco-village in West Wales. The project is proposing a development of 30 eco-smallholdings on 175 acres of farmland next to the village of Glandwr, Pembrokeshire.
It will be the first of its kind in the UK, pioneering “low impact development” as a demonstration of sustainable living.
Follow our story through our monthly online videoblog.
Our first video is an overview of what the Lammas project is trying to achieve and why. The second one looks at Glandwr's mixed reactions to the project.
In our third video we travel to Somerset to hear how the Tinkers Bubble community manage their low impact life. And the fourth video visits the Big Green Gathering in Somerset - one of the first low impact settlements in the country.
Our fifth video takes us a long way to Tipperary to see how Cloughjordan sustainable community gained its planning permission. From Ireland to Findhorn in northern Scotland, in our sixth video, we hear about the land price issues that prevent the eco-village movement expanding.
In our seventh video, we've laid out our plans for the skills, products and way of life which we hope will get up planning permission.
In our eighth and final video we finalise the plans for our new homes and our new way of lives.

More About Lammas
Members vote on plans Residents will build their own houses using local natural materials. The dwellings will merge with the natural environment that surrounds them.
They will be highly innovative yet simple, using the latest environmental technologies combined with traditional techniques. Each dwelling will be unique, having been essentially created by the people living in them.
They will be sited across the land on 5 acre plots, from which residents will create land based livelihoods. The settlement intends to establish a vibrant local economy centred on land produce. The development will provide its own electricity and water, and will limit the number of vehicles it uses.
In tune with nature Lammas expects to apply for outline planning consent in the Autumn and Winter 2006. By Spring 2007 we aim to have bought the land and selected people to live there.
The project is moving very quickly, with a life of its own. You can find background to the project on the Lammas website. Our video diaries are filmed and edited by Undercurrents.
