London360 are world record breakers

London 360 hugging

Today two of our London360 reporters, along with three other couples, became record breakers in… hugging. On Thursday, Emily Jane Brown and Rose Manley started their attempt to break the record for the world's 'longest marathon hug'. The time to beat? A whopping 24 hours and 34 minutes!

The event commenced at 7am on Thursday 19th January at St Pancras International. The couples were allowed a 5 minute break every hour. They had to stand for the duration of the attempt and be awake throughout. Six couples started off the record attempt, but two were later disqualified. One for changing the position of their hug and the other for not hugging closely enough!

HugathonShortly before 8am on Friday morning, they were declared record breakers. The girls have tweeted to say they are being treated to a 'champions breakfast' at the Radisson hotel.

The event was to celebrate World Hugging Day which is on the 21st January. It is also the first of 20 attempts - called World Record London - to mark the 2012 Olympics.
