UK Youth Volunteers

Five young people tell their stories of how volunteering has given them confidence and skills, and been a stepping stone to a career.

TV presenters Kate Humble, Ortis Deley, politician Diane Abbott and footballer Sol Campbell introduce the stories.

Adam Blackwood volunteered with animals at a Community Farm in Wales when he was 17, and it helped him get over the death of his brother.  He says he gained confidence and skills.

Jenny Edwards, 23, has Aspergers syndrome and found volunteering with Youth Action Team gave her experience and belief in herself.

Rhasan Bruner is 14 years old and has been elected by the young people of Hackney to the Youth Parliament.  His volunteering work has enabled him to know what he wants to do.  Politics beckons!

Twenty-six year old Kirsty Abbott's degree in environmental biology enables her to volunteer for Eco Schools and inspire other young people about climate change through helping them with gardening and recycling.

Nathan Bulloch, 17, has used his passion for football to pursue his work in volunteering.  It's given him huge benefits he didn't think possible before.

All of the five young people are using their free time to commit to volunteering and in the process they're making a difference to other people.

The film was made by BBC Connect and Create a scheme that offers BBC staff skills development opportunities that also benefit the wider community.
