With 17 murders a day, Guatemala City is one of the most dangerous places on earth. The ending of a 30 year long civil war in 1996 promised a new start, but since then reporter Zeinab Badawi finds evidence the narco gangs — some deported criminals from the USA — are holding the reins, threatening to make Guatemala a ‘failed state’. On the surface the capital is well run but every morning the inhabitants wake up to gory headlines in their papers of the latest gang slayings.
