Episode nine of UK360 is presented by actress Louisa Lytton. This episode explores how much food the UK wastes, the hidden homeless in Bradford, how independent retailers are coping in the current climate and more.
 
High Street vs Independent Retailers
Recent reports indicate, one in seven shops on the UK's high streets stood empty in 2011.  Community journalist, Laoise Hayes went to her local high street, Portobello Road to find out about the unique challenges facing traders and shopkeepers in her local community.

Family conflict is one of the main reasons why young people find themselves homeless. As homelessness continues to rise in this country, UK360 recently investigated the hidden homeless of Bradford City.
 
Digi Steps
We are constantly finding new ways to communicate withfriends and family, although at the same time we tend to alienate a group of certain individuals who may not be so tech savvy – the elderly. Digi Steps is a social enterprise run by school children who to teach senior citizens computer skills.  
 
WWF Earth Hour
‘Earth Hour’ was responsible for the largest environmental event in history, more than 5,200 cities and towns switched off their lights last year. The aim is to highlight the issue of global warming. Last year the WWF got involved and lead a team of cyclists to create one of the largest human-powered projections in the country. This years Earth Hour will take place on March 31st.
 
This is Rubbish
The UK generates over 16 million tonnes of food waste. Which costs an estimated 22 billion a year, however, a whopping 60% of that food waste occurs before it even reaches the consumer. Food awareness organisation ‘This is Rubbish’ aim to tackle this issue.
