The rules of Together TV require that at each AGM one of the three elected members retires and this year it is my turn, being the longer standing of the three current elected members.
I purchased my shares in Together TV with the crowdfunding campaign to save the channel in 2016. Attending the AGM in 2018, over a fun activity planting seedlings, Caroline (Chair) used her excellent skills in securing support for the channel and convinced me to run for a position on the board. When I was elected that year, the financial viability of the channel was still very uncertain – so uncertain that I almost did not accept the role! However, I was convinced by the passion of the team and the board to pitch in and do what I could.
Three years later the channel looks very different as a result of that passion, lots of hard work by the small team led by Alex and the guiding expertise of our board members from the tv industry. An improved mix of programming, growing viewer numbers and advertising income have transformed the organisation financially, enabling it to weather the pandemic, and to put it on sound footing to further realise its social purpose. Exciting things are happening on the impact side with the channel helping people to connect with their communities through Together for Good and the forthcoming films funded by our supporters through the Diverse Film Fund. It’s a great time to join the board of Together TV. Please do consider running in the upcoming election and supporting this fantastic team.
